World Card Making Day Inspiration

Since October 1 is World Card Making Day, it's only fitting that I share a card that I actually mailed!  I hope everyone is planning to make a card and send it out this year.  This card is going to my daughter who is in her first year at College.  As I shared earlier, I've been trying to send fun things as often as possible.

So what's cooler than a Moose and a Fox in sunglasses?  I love these two characters from the Jolly Friends Stamp Set (p. 29 in the Holiday Catalog)  I couldn't resist making them as "Hip" as possible.  The fact that the set bundles with the Jolly Hat Builder Punch (the bundle number is #143511, in case you're interested!) makes it all the more useful!  I have a feeling that hat is going to show up on a lot of creatures.

Thinking Ahead Thursday

We're now getting into the thick of the Holiday Crafting Season which means the designs for Christmas Cards are out there flowing freely.  I need to start thinking ahead, myself, so here's what I've been up to this week.

I've seen so many cute cards that use the Cookie Cutter Christmas Stamp Set and Cookie Cutter Builder Punch that are bundled together in the Holiday Catalog (see page 6, #143493.)  Here's one of my first takes.  The tag on the card can, of course, stand alone as a great gift tag, I just felt like using it as the focal point on my card.  One of the cool things about the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch is that it also coordinates with the Cookie Cutter Halloween stamp set later on in the catalog. (See page 53.)

The Paper and the Sentiment both come from the Annual Catalog (believe it or not!)  This year there's a great selection of Christmas Products and ideas on display there, too.  Bonus ideas and projects are the best.  See pages 26 - 35 for all the details.  The "Merry" stamp is from Holly Jolly Greetings and the striped paper is from the This Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper set.

More fall fun

Here's another Fall Card for your Wednesday.  Nothing tricky, just some lovely colors in combination with a simple sentiment.  I used the Thoughtful Branches Bundle ( #144328)  If I'm not mistaken, this amazing product is almost completely out of stock so get yours ASAP.

I paired the leaf stamp and die from this set with the Morocan Designer Washi Tape (p 179, #141647), the Dapper Denim 3/8" Ruched Ribbon (p. 178, #141424) and some Linen Thread for texture and visual interest.  The Stylized Birthday Stamp (p. 16, #141828) makes this card a quick go-to birthday card.

Fall Cards Class

Happy Fall!  I knew it was fall when we were travelling in Maine last weekend and the temperatures were dipping into the 40's and 30's at night.  The air up there was crisp and clean.  I'll post more about the trip (yes, it pertains to Paper Crafting!) in a future post.

In any case, it got me excited to dive into Fall Cards.  This one is a combination of new and a touch of old.  I'm teaching my October First Tuesday Card Making class next week.  The theme is Fun Fall Cards.   Here is a peek at the cards we'll be doing.  The first uses the Jar of Haunts Stamp Set. (p. 55 of the Holiday Catalog).   I also grabbed the Halloween Night Specialty Designer Series Paper and the Halloween Night Baker's Twine to compliment.  You might wonder about the sentiment.  I reached into my retired stamp collection and found that "For All Things" had the perfect Fall sentiment.

The second card uses the same Jar of Haunts Stamp Set, but in a more traditional Halloween Card.  I love the spiders in this set.  Plus, those jars are really useful.

The sentiment comes from Spooky Fun (p. 52, Holiday Catalog).  I also used the Basic Black Bakers Twine available in the Annual Catalog (see p. 179.)

For the third card, I was inspired by all the wonderful ideas I've seen on Pinterest using the Halloween Scenes Edgelits Dies (p. 52, HC)  Thank you everyone whose projects I've pinned/saved/liked, you're too numerous to credit everyone.  You inspire me greatly!

In this card, I turned to two of my favorite Halloween colors:  Elegant Eggplant and Smoky Slate.  This is decidedly a "quick and easy" type of card.  It comes together in a flash.  A bit of sponging on the Smoky Slate background gives it a shadowy feel in keeping with the season.

What I've Been Working On...

 It's been awhile since I've posted.  The end of the summer was pretty busy getting prepared to send our youngest off to college.  It's been quite a roller coaster ride.  But here we are with a quiet house except for a very loud cat.  More about him in a future post.  However, now I've got lots of time to put my papercrafting ideas into action.

Here's the first one.  It went off in the mail today.  I made my daughter 6 popcorn boxes using the Popcorn Box Thinlits Die and matching Ready to Pop stamp set (See page 17 in the Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog for all the details) .  The box also included a bag of her favorite popcorn, an I-Tunes Card (any party needs some good tunes!) and a Jigsaw Puzzle for her to invite friends for some downtime.  I remember when I was away at college the trip to the mailbox was something special.  Even though we're really connected with Texting and E-mail and all that, it's still fun to get something thoughtful in the mail.

I had so much fun making these that I'm making them in other colors to send to some of my daughter's friends who are off to college for the first time, as well.  I include picture below of one that uses Peekaboo Peach and Tangerine Tango.  Oh, that's the special popcorn behind, just in case you were wondering.  It's very tasty.
